The Satanic Verses - Salman Rushdie
started off strong. i was immediately hooked on the free-flowing and catchy prose. i liked the style. it held out for a while, but towards the middle began to lose steam. i didn't feel the gears of the story working anymore; everything seemed muddled, without any drive, sort of wallowing around, even with the explicit deus ex machina narrator who appears every once in a while to wink and nudge at the reader. definitely had some good parts, very good dialogue, interesting characters.
